History of
Norwich Inn
The main building was built in 1929 and
soon became host to the rich and famous
like George Bernard Shaw, Frank Sinatra,
and Edward, Prince of Wales. Years later,
it went through a rough stretch when it
served as a holding pen for the local
police and then as a boarding house. But
in 1999, its new owners, the Mashantucket
Pequot Indians (owners of the nearby
Foxwoods Casino Resort), spiffed it up
with a $14 million restoration. The
result? 49 rooms with homey charm and
elegant amenities (including fluffy white
robes and toiletries from the Spa). Want
some extra privacy? Sign up for one of
the attractively furnished villas and
enjoy the extra luxury of relaxing in
front of a wood-burning fireplace or on a
terrace overlooking the Inn's 42 acres of
landscaped grounds.
The Spa
There is no question, though, that as
nice as the rooms might be, you've really
come to enjoy the spa services. Whether
your idea of a spa weekend includes
manicures, massages and meditation or if
you'd rather devote yourself to a
strenuous fitness regime, you'll be happy
here: there are 32 treatment rooms and a
friendly and knowledgeable staff ready to
serve you.

DON'T miss the afternoon tea
which includes a fabulous selection of
gourmet teas and to-die-for scones. Even
if you've come to tone up a bit, they are
truly worth the extra calories!
DO forgo a trip to Foxwoods.
The harried, smoky atmosphere of the
casino will destroy the sense of
tranquility you've been enjoying so much,
and the food at Kensington's (the Inn's
restaurant) is far superior to anything
at Foxwoods.
