GODSPEED SAIL
This summer, a
replica of Godspeed, one
of the three original ships that
in 1607 brought America's first
permanent English colonists to
Jamestown, launches with an
80-day sailing itinerary to begin
the celebration of America's 400th
Anniversary. Ports of call
include NYC (through July 6th),
Boston (July 14th
to 19th), and Newport, RI (July
25th to 30th). Join in the
excitement of the
"Landing Party" -
featuring live musical
performances, family
entertainment,
historical and cultural
displays highlighting the
legacies of Jamestown and the
growth of America -- all free to
the public. For more
details visit the Godspeed
web site.

CELEBRATE
THE 4TH IN NYC
Independence
Day is all about fireworks and Macy's Fourth of
July Fireworks
is the annual
spectacular of color and light.
2006 marks the 30th anniversary
of this extravaganza which will
feature more than 120,000 bursts
of pyrotechnic color. While the
show, which gets underway on July
4th at 9pm, is visible for free
from almost any unobstructed view
of the East River in Manhattan,
Brooklyn and Queens, one of the
best viewing spots in town is at
Southpoint on Roosevelt Island.
To justify the price of the tickets,
there will be a variety of
pre-show activities including
face painters, jugglers and live
music. Given the Chinese
tradition of celebrating with
fireworks it should come as no
surprise that Chinatown
hosts a terrific 4th of July
festival.
The Chinatown Independence Day
Parade features colorful floats,
lion and dragon dances, and
marching bands. You can also
enjoy live music, dance and kid
activities at the Block Party on
Market Street. Both free events
take place on Sunday, July 2nd.
