United States Mint
5th and Arch Streets
Philadelphia
215-408-0114
Since
Philadelphia was the site of the first
U.S. Mint, it doesn't surprise us that it
now has the country's largest. You can
see money being made before your very
eyes (albeit behind a glass-wall) during
a self-guided tour that includes the
factory, several exhibits, and a store
where you can buy freshly minted coins.
You do need to plan in advance, however,
since tours (other than those for
students, veteran and military groups)
are arranged only via Congressional
sponsorship. See the Mint's web site
for instructions on setting up your
visit.
