Fort Point National
Historic Site
at the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge
(415) 556-1693
The
best way to learn about Fort Points
historical significance is to attend the
17-minute video presentation that traces
the Forts past from 1776 through
World War II. You may also want to learn
more about the Forts role in the
Civil War by attending a Cannon Drill,
which focuses on how soldiers were taught
to load and fire a Napoleon 12-pounder
cannon, or by renting the audio tour that
explores the day in the life of a Civil
War soldier via a walk around the
casemates and through Fort Points
living quarters.
While you are at Fort Point
we also recommend that check out the
videotape (produced by Bethlehem Steel)
that explores the construction of the Golden
Gate Bridge as
an engineering landmark. Fort Point
National Historic Site is run by the
National Park Service; to learn more
