The Presidio of San
Francisco
Visitor Center (415) 561-4323Formerly
a military base, now this beautiful
scenic area is part of the Golden
Gate National Recreation Area administered
by the National Park Service (NPS). The
Visitor Center, located in Building 102
on Montgomery Street (near the main post
parade ground) is a good place to collect
information for your visit.
The Presidio's attractions
include picnic areas, beaches, and a golf
course. The Presidio is also rich in
history -- be sure to check out the
museum and then explore the Presidio by
walking or driving through the miles of
trails and roads that circle around the
former base.
National Indian
Justice Center
Coming soon are the
California Indian Museum, the Golden Gate
Institute for Indigenous Cultures, and an
indigenous village that will provide
space for performing arts events,
traditional festivals, and crafts
expositions, all to be sponsored by the
National Indian Justice Center.
Crissy Field
This nearby waterfront area
is currently undergoing restoration,
which the National Park Service promises
will result in "100 acres of
spectacular open space for recreation,
education, and enjoyment."
