James Eugene Carrey was born on 1/17/1962 in Newmarket, Ontario Canada. His parents are Percy (who was an accountant and aspiring saxophonist) and Kathleen. As a child Jim performed constantly for anyone willing to become his audience. As a ten year old he applied to perform on the Carol Burnett Show, but was rejected. His first break into show business wouldn’t come until he moved to Los Angeles as a high-school dropout and began performing at many of the local comedy clubs. Rodney Dangerfield was so impressed with his work that he signed him to be an opening act for an entire season.  Carrey married Melissa Wormer with whom he has a daughter, Jane. He went through a messy divorce and later was married to Lauren Holly for less than one year.

His first movie role was in “Once Bitten” followed by supporting roles in “Peggy Sue Got Married” and “Earth Girls are Easy.” One of his fellow aliens Damon Wayans was so amazed by Carrey’s antics and acting that he spoke with his brother Keenan Ivory Wayans who was assembling the sketch comedy show “In Living Color.” Carrey joined the cast and was hugely popular as the hilarious goofball in numerous outrageous acts. His first big movie role came shortly thereafter in “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective,” where his physical humor became his trademark. Cashing in on this style he starred in “The Mask,” “Dumb & Dumber,” “Batman Forever,” and “Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls.”  He received $20 million to star in “The Cable Guy,” which was at that time the largest sum paid to a comic actor. Carrey’s star-status was a bit tarnished after the financial and critical disappointment of “The Cable Guy,” but he had great success the following year with “Liar Liar.”  He went on to play some more serious roles in “The Truman Show,” “Man on the Moon,” and “The Majestic.” Other films include “Me, Myself and Irene” after which he had a real life romance with onscreen co-star Renee Zellweger, “Bruce Almighty,” “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events,” “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” and “Fun With Dick and Jane.” Jim Carrey has several projects in the works and is currently dating Jenny McCarthy.
