Roseann Theresa "Rosie" O'Donnell was born on March 21, 1962 in Queens, New York. Her first big break occurred with Star Search and after this success moved on to sitcoms, with her series debut on Gimme a Break!  in 1986. In 1988, she transferred to VH1, hosting Stand-up Spotlight.

O'Donnell made her feature film debut in A Leage of Their Own, then going on to play an eclectic range of roles, appearing in films that include Sleepless In Seattle, The Flintstones,  as well as others. In 1996 she began hosting her daytime talk show, The Rosie O'DOnnell Show, which proved extremely successful, winning multiple Emmy awards and earning O'Donnell the title "The Queen of Nice". 

 

It was during her talk show that Rosie became an active supporter of her many passions, including promoting Broadway plays as well as opposing the NRA and use of guns after the Columbine shooting. It was two months before she quit the talk show in 2002 that she publicly came out, announcing "I'm a dyke!" at Caroline's Comedy Club. Following this announcement was an image change that took O'Donnell from "The Queen of Nice" to outspoken and, as testified during her co-hosting stint on The View, sometimes controversial. 

 

Recent controversies that Rosie has been involved in  include: accussing Kelly Ripa of being homophobic towards Clay Aiken, being accused heself of being anti-Catholic after expressing concern over how many Catholic supreme judges there are as well as being accussed of mocking the Chinese language, a fued with Donald Trump, an argument with Elisabeth Hasselbeck, and claiming that the 7 World Trade Center collapse was caused by explosives planted in the building. 

 

Most recently Rosie has posted her own video blog, teaming up with her hair and make-up artist as well as her writer from The Rosie O Donnell Show . The blog is in the running for "the best celebrity blogger" in 2007's Blogger's Choice Awards.
