Colbert studied acting at Northwestern University and performed with the Second City comedy troupe in Chicago. His first splash came with the role of Chuck Noblet in tv-cult favorite, Strangers With Candy. Colbert then went to the Daily Show, where he played senior correspondent to Jon Stewart's anchorman, and the host of "This Week in God."
In 2005, Colbert began his ascent into iconic status with his show The Colbert Report. In the show, Colbert plays a fire-breathing, hand-pumping, and pompous news host. Colbert says he got the inspiration to create the character from Bill O'Reilly.
Colbert has also written for shows - Saturday Night Live, Strangers With Candy, and the Daily Show just to name a few.
