Thomas Jeffrey Hanks was born on July 9, 1956 in Concord, California.  Hanks proved himself as a skilled comedian in the 1980s comedy “Bosom Buddies” and then starred on the big screen opposite Daryl Hannah and John Candy in the mermaid movie “Splash.”  He hit it big in 1988, receiving an Oscar nomination for his promotion of a kid who grew up too fast in “Big.” Hanks won his first Oscar for his role as an AIDS victim in the movie “Philadelphia” and the following year became the second actor to win back-to-back Oscars  (Spencer Tracy won in 1937 and ’38) when he won for “Forrest Gump.” Holding another distinction as an actor, he is the highest grossing lead actor of all time with a combined gross of over $6 billion worldwide.  He has had critical success with his dramatic roles and has been very widely well received in his comedies such as “Sleepless in Seattle,” “You’ve Got Mail,” “Toy Story” and “Toy Story II.” Hanks helped bring the book “Polar Express” to the big screen and also starred in “The DaVinci Code,” which was based on an immensely popular book of the same name written by Dan Brown. He was been married to actress Rita Wilson since 1988 and they have two children.
