Hollywood power couple Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith took the stage to kick off today's star-studded concert in London celebrating Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday.

And despite recent reports of health problems, Amy Winehouse made her way to the event, where she eventually took the stage to sing.

Nearly 50,000 fans attended the concert honoring the statesman. Annie Lennox, Leona Lewis, Queen and Simple Minds were also on hand to perform. Proceeds from the concert will benefit Mandela's 46664 charity. The show coincides with the 20th anniversary of London's Free Mandela concert, which called for his release from prison.

"Twenty years ago, London hosted a historic concert which called for our freedom," Mandela told the crowd, according to Reuters. "Your voices carried across the water and inspired us in our prison cells far away. As we celebrate, let us remind ourselves that our work is far from complete. Where there is poverty and sickness, including AIDS, where human beings are being oppressed, there is more work to be done."

Meanwhile, the concert is just a part of the week-long celebration. On Wednesday, Will and wife Jada, Leona, and Oprah Winfrey were just a few of the A-listers to attend a dinner paying tribute to Mandela.

  • Apparently, the "bus station crack whore" look is in this season. What a meagerly talented skank.

  • What genius thought Amy Winehouse performing for Nelson Mandela's birthday was a good idea? It's just slightly perplexing considering she was videotaped spewing all sorts of racial trash.

  • This picture of Amy Winehouse accentuates her melon-shaped head. Strange, but that is one of her quirky features that I find very attractive. If I was connected and a scofflaw, I'd be able to surround her with the party-favors she requires. Live...
