"I can confirm she is engaged," Thurman's rep, Stephen Huvane said on Friday.

In return for saying yes, the actress received some serious sparkle: an 8-plus carat center stone surrounded by 20 smaller stones. "It's the most beautiful piece I've ever seen," a source told PEOPLE of the diamond ring. "Arki did a wonderful job."

Thurman met Busson, who has two kids with supermodel Elle Macpherson, last year at a dinner party in Milan. She also has a pair of children, both with ex-husband Ethan Hawke.

Busson proposed to Thurman this week in London, where the couple attended Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday party. "It was a really old-fashioned romantic gesture," said a friend. Photos of the event show a ring on Thurman's left hand, but the diamond had been twirled to behind her ring finger.

"Everyone is so happy for Uma after what she went through with that stalker," added the pal, referring to Thurman's recent court ordeal with obsessed fan Jack Jordan. "Arki is a guy who can take care of her."

No word on when the couple will tie the knot. This will be the third marriage for Thurman, who has two children with Ethan Hawke, whom she divorced in 2003. She was also married to Gary Oldman for two years, divorcing in 1992.
