The best indie films of the year got their due at the annual awards show.

One day prior to the 80th Annual Academy Awards, the stars aligned in Santa Monica to celebrate the top indie films of the last year at the Film Independent Spirit Awards -- and "The Insider"'s CHERYL WOODCOCK was there!

In a tribute to HEATH LEDGER, the departed star's peers dedicated awards to him at the ceremony. Accepting for Best Supporting Female Actor in their BOB DYLAN ensemble flick 'I'm Not There,' Heath's co-star CATE BLANCHETT said, "Heath Ledger...this is for him." And while presenting the ROBERT ALTMAN Award with DENNIS QUAID, PATRICIA CLARKSON added, "We are lucky to have lived in Heath's time."

"The Office" funnyman RAINN WILSON emceed the event, which was attended by celebs including ALAN ARKIN, JAVIER BARDEM, JASON BATEMAN, KATE BECKINSALE, CATE BLANCHETT, ZACH BRAFF, MATT DILLON, JOSH HARTNETT, DENNIS QUAID and FOREST WHITAKER.

According to the Associated Press, 'Juno' took home the year's best independent film award, as well as a best actress nod for the film's now 21-year-old star ELLEN PAGE, who played a pregnant teen in the comedy. (Scribe DIABLO CODY also won the award for best first screenplay.)

PHILIP SEYMOUR HOFFMAN won for best actor in the sibling dramedy 'The Savages,' while best directing honors went to JULIAN SCHNABEL for his drama 'The Diving Bell and the Butterfly,' the AP reports.
