With the moderate success of the first film, and with the popularity of comic book related films on the rise, a sequel to Hellboy is no surprise.  And from all the promos, commercials and trailers that have come out, this one looks to be a vast improvement over the first, which was well received in its own right.

From director Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy) comes this jam packed action/humor/character based saga about the kitty loving demon turned superhero.  This film has badder weapons, bigger muscle and more intense villains exploding off the screen than the first.  It debuts July 11, 2008.

When a truce between humans and the spiritual realm is broken, Hell comes to Earth as a ruthless leader defies his bloodline and awakens an unstoppable army of horrific creatures.  Hellboy (Ron Perlman) is the only hope of stopping the threat, so along with the BPRD (Bureau for Paranormal Research and Development) squad (Liz, Abe Sapian and Johann) they travel between the physical and unseen realms to put a stop to the unleashed devestation.

The promotional efforts behind this film are ingenious as Hellboy has popped up in interviews, commercials and so forth in order to ingrain the red anti-demon into the minds and hearts of viewers abroad.  Some of these can be seen here.  And you can catch the trailer below:
