“GOLDEN GIRLS” star Estelle Getty has passed away in Hollywood, California
Getty was best known as the sarcastic Sophia on NBC’s ‘The Golden Girls.” She spent 40 years struggling for success as an actress before landing the role.
She was nominated for seven Emmy Awards for Best Supporting Actress between 1986 and 1992,
and won the award in 1988.
She suffered from advanced dementia, and died early Tuesday morning at her Hollywood Bouledvard home.
She was 84.
The Golden Girls featured four female retirees who shared a house in Miami, and ran for seven seasons.
She also starred in “Stop, Or My Mom Will Shoot” with Sylvester Stallone.
