Patrick Swayze on the set of his new television series

Patrick Swayze has made a truly amazing recovery from pancreatic cancer. He’s dubbed himself a miracle, and that really isn’t an exaggeration. Pancreatic cancer is incredibly difficult to beat. When he first announced he had it, it seemed like most people were just hoping he could have more time – it didn’t even seem possible to hope for a cure. Yet thanks to cutting edge treatment, the man is doing amazingly well, and yesterday went back to work on his new television series Beast.

Nobody puts Patrick Swayze in a corner!

The 55-year-old Dirty Dancing star looked fit and healthy Monday as he filmed The Beast, his first acting job since he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer earlier this year.

The self-proclaimed “miracle” – who announced he had pancreatic cancer in March and began chemotherapy – looked tanned and smiling on the set of the A&E TV series. (Episodes of the show – in which Swayze plays and FBI agent – are scheduled to begin airing next year.)

“Patrick is an amazing person,” his costar Larry Gilliard Jr. recently told PEOPLE. “He’s so positive. I’m really looking forward to getting back to work with him.”

Patrick underwent experimental cyberknife surgery. It’s a procedure that uses high doses of radiation in target areas, thus preserving other tissues. He’s looking truly amazing in these pictures taken yesterday – you’d never know the guy had recently been so sick. Congratulations to Patrick on his great recovery.
