Wired Music: Jack White and Alicia Keys Take on ‘Bond’

The battle over the new James Bond theme song is finally over, and an unlikely duo ended up the victors. According to NME, Jack White and Alicia Keys will team up to record the theme to the upcoming movie “The Quantum of Solace.”

Jack, leader of the White Stripes and the Raconteurs, will write, record, and play drums on the track, while Alicia takes the lead vocals. The collaboration marks the first time in history a duo will record the Bond theme.

The fate of the theme song remained in the air for much of the year. Originally, Mark Ronson announced he wrote a track, and Amy Winehouse would provide vocals. Unfortunately, the long-time collaborators had a falling out, resulting in Mark scraping the plan completely. He later issued a statement claiming Amy wasn’t “ready to work on music yet.”

“We did work on it but we never finished it. I don’t think it will happen unless by some miracle it gets recorded and someone sings on it. I’m not sure Amy is ready to work on music yet.”

Amy’s rep fired back, claiming the singer didn’t feel Mark’s tune was up to par.

“Mark presented a track to Amy, but she had other ideas about the direction it should take. We’re sure they will continue to make great music together.”

Shortly after the disagreement, it was suggested soul-singing sensation Duffy was “dead cert” to record a song called “Another Way to Die” for the soundtrack. Unfortunately for Duffy, Jack and Alicia won the producer’s hearts with their as-yet-untitled track.

Meanwhile, “Quantum of Solace” starring Daniel Craig as Bond will hit US theaters November 7.

For now, check out my favorite White Stripes song, “You’re Pretty Good Looking (For a Girl.)”
