John Mayer Calls For Paparazzi Regulation

John Mayer took a stand about against the craziness of the paparazzi yesterday, when he spoke at a hearing on the issue at L.A. City Hall Thursday.

"I don't sit before you today to ask that you ban the paparazzi," John said to the panel. "I'm asking you to regulate it. Officialize it. Tax it. Legitimize it.

"I don't want to beg the city of Los Angeles to give me 1987 back," he said. "I love being a famous musician in 2008... This is about safety."

Some of John's suggestions for making things with the shutterbugs a little more civil? Photographers should be required to have legit credentials, they should have to drive marked cars, and there needs to be a  "law governing an acceptable filming distance from an unwilling subject [to keep] everybody safe and misbehavior accountable."

"Regulating the paparazzi won't bring an end to modern-day media coverage," he proposed, "Just as the newly enforced hands-free law hasn't stopped people from talking on cell phones while they drive.

Maybe John should just stop dating other huge celebrities?

I'm totally kidding.

I like this side of John Mayer -- smart is sexy, people.
