The woman John Edwards admitted to having an affair with made disparaging comments about Edwards' wife Elizabeth in an interview two years ago, says the New York Post.

Talking to Newsweek reporter Jonathan Darman in late 2006, Rielle Hunter reportedly said, "[Elizabeth] does not give off good energy," and accused: "She didn’t make eye contact with me."

Hunter, a filmmaker, was documenting Edwards' presidential campaign at the time. She spoke with Newsweek's Darman after getting fired, reportedly telling him of Elizabeth: "Someday, the truth about her is going to come out."

When Darman spoke again with Hunter last summer, she reportedly said she was in love, but wouldn't identify with whom, says the Post.

Edwards released a statement to "The Insider" saying that his affair with Hunter "took place for a short period in 2006. It ended then."

Elizabeth, who is presently battling cancer, affirmed her support for her husband in a separate statement, after news of the affair broke.

  • I'm shocked John Edwards would risk loosing his family for this particular woman. He should have gone home with the morning newspaper at least he could throw it out after he was done with it. John you really had a lapse in judgement with whatever...

  • What was Edwards thinking? She's not even hot! That alone shows you this guy has no good judgment at least she could have turned him down knowing full well what he and Elizabeth have been through over the years. Having an affair with a married man...

  • Sometimes good men do bad things and it is a remarkable woman who can see the difference for her children. The other woman is disgusting. That is not love, but hate for ones self to get involved with another woman's husband and children father.

  • Affairs are bad karma & a reflection on the characters of those who have them, not the suffering spouses who are being deceived & betrayed. People who have affairs are either narcissists who don't care or cowards who can't leave. And for mistress...

  • Let's not forget, it takes 2 to tangle! If Mr Edwards loved his wife so much then he would be thinking about her instead off the thing between his legs. Don't just blame the mistress!

  • I have no empathy for Elizabeth who chose to stay with John after he admitted the affair 2 years ago. The first time someone hurts you it is not your fault, the second time someone hurts you it is your fault, because you stayed. Liz had her chance...

  • To me, the biggest dweeb of all is Jonathan Darman. He is a user more than the players of this affair. With a precious name like Jonathan, he probably feels that he is entitled, that he went to Harvard, and is truly one of the chosen ones. Reading...

  • As the wife of a cheater, I empathize with Elizabeth Edwards. Even if Mrs. Edwards is unfriendly, or worse, she is still John Edwards' wife, and deserves more respect than she has received.

  • How dare she bash Elizabeth. She is the interloper. She is the one who entered into a relationship she had no business being in. She should keep her mouth shut! How dare she make Elizabeth's burden any worse than it already is. How dare she!!!!!

  • I was hoping he wasn't a slimeball and didn't cheat but alas, he did.
I wish he would shut up about it, though.
Elizabeth is a strong. touch woman and hopefully she"ll do the right thing and leave the big(headed) lug. Elizabeth needs to pull an...

  • Edwards along with all the other politicians need to have their private sex lives off limits. What I care about is what they want and will do for our country. The obsession with the sex lives of people shows how sick our society has become!
