'CSI' gets its man: Laurence Fishburne joins cast

LOS ANGELES (AP) _ CBS says "Matrix" star Laurence Fishburne is joining the cast of "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," stepping into the gap left by departing cast member William Petersen.

CBS tells The Associated Press that Fishburne will be introduced in the ninth episode of the upcoming season. He plays a college lecturer and former pathologist who is focused on why people commit acts of violence.

Petersen, who has been with the series since it debuted in fall 2000, will leave the show early next year. CBS says the air date for Petersen's final episode hasn't been determined.

  • man this sucks big time... first sarah left then they killed Warrick and now Petersen leaves the show. they should cancel the show cuz without petersen its gonna suck big TIME!

  • He's going to be a producer and make special appearances but will not be a regular. Gary Dourdan was killed in the season finally - so Peterson will be the third to leave this year.

  • 1. "The other black guy in the show" was killed in the last episode of the last series.
    2. The show wont be the same without Petersen but I wont jump to any rash assumptions about whether the show can continue without him.
    3. What is Petersen going to do now?

  • My thought is Grissom is irreplacible, but if it has to happen Mr Fishburne could be a good fit. Gotta see him in action to really evaluate.

    • Larry is not geeky enough to replace Grissom. Does not look the part!!
      I am highly upset at this choice. If William Peterson wants to leave I understand but the network exes should take more time to find a replacement.
