See More... In an interview airing Tuesday morning on ABC's "Good Morning America," Christina Applegate declares that she has won her brief battle with breast cancer, but that she had to make the dramatic decision to have both of her breasts removed to increase the chances that it would not return.

Give us your thoughts below on how the actress has dealt with her cancer and your comments may end up on "The Insider" on TV tonight!

"My decision after looking at all the treatment plans that were possibilities for me, the only one that seemed the most logical, and the one that was going to work for me, was to have a bilateral mastectomy," she tells Robin Roberts.

She says she decided to make that decision to increase her chances that the cancer would not return. "I didn't want to go back to the doctors every four months," she says. "I wanted to be rid of it. For me this was the choice I made and it was a tough one."

Although she knows she made the right decision, she still finds her self breaking down at times.

"Sometimes I cry and sometimes I scream and I get really angry," she says. "It's all a part of healing and anyone who's going through out there, it's okay to cry. It's okay to fall on the ground and just scream if you want to."

But things are looking up for the actress, who says in the interview that she's now cancer free. "Absolutely 100 percent clear and clean," she says. "They got everything out, so I'm definitely not going to die from breast cancer."

The full interview will air on "Good Morning America" on Tuesday at 7 a.m.

  • Good news that Christina is cancer-free, but also bittersweet in the sense that it took a double mastectomy to ensure her future health. What a difficult decision to make, and I can only imagine how hard that must have been for her. Even so, I hope Christina knows that she is still just as beautiful as ever, inside and out. Best of luck to her, both in her career and in her personal life.

  • My wife made the same decision last year, it's a tough one, but I'm glad Christina did too. It is the best thing she could have done. I hope she has a speedy recovery.

    • After being diagnosed with ovarian and uterine cancer in September 2007 - finishing chemo in Feb. 2008, I had genetic testing and tested positive for Braca - I just had a bilateral masectomy on July 18th - one of the toughest decisions of my life but the only one that made sense - I am sure your wife is doing well.

  • Christina Applegate is a brave and beautiful woman to admire. She is incredible to have made this strong and difficult decision, especially with her career focused in an industry that places such high regard on looks. I believe that Christina is more beautiful now than she has ever been before.

  • I think she made a very wise decision. I am 36 also and was also tested positve for the Braca1 gene mutation. I am just now finishing up the reconstructive portion of it. I am also cancer free. It was a very hard thing to do...but for peace of mind it was well worth it! Good Luck Christina....Your breasts will look better than ever!!

  • Congratulations on your strong decision. My thoughts are with you. My sister is recently recovering from breast cancer as well, having both breasts removed. I then tested positive for the BRCA1 gene, and will be having both of my breasts removed prophylactically. I have already done the bilateral tube and ovary removal, and my sister will be having this as a final surgery for her this September. It has been an extremely difficult time for all involved, but we do believe it's the only way to go. Good luck to you!

  • Ms. Applegate: I applaud your courage and strength. You are one of the many victims of this disease that the world can look up to. You fought and you won. You are still a beautiful, talented woman with so much to give (in areas you are not even of aware of yet). God bless and keep you.

  • Did the same thing last September. Only stage two but with family history I chose to have both removed--entirely. In the process of a long reconstruction but have a real chance of living a long life...Christina made the right decision.

  • My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer about ten years ago (and again about four years ago) and chose to have a mastectomy performed. It was the easiest and hardest decision she'd ever had to make. I'm sure Christina, as with my wife, made the right decision. I'm ecstatic that Christina is cancer free, and I'll continue to pray the she, along with many other breast cancer surviviors, will remain cancer free.

  • Christina,P please do not take it lightly - that you had a double mastectomy and now you are cancer free. I also had a double mastectomy and 4 years later after undergoing chemo it came back against my chest wall. Another round of chemo and 7 yeaars later reoccurence in my lymph nodes. I am now told it is in remission until another occurence. I cannot take chemo becuase of heart palpitations, so I take oral chemo - 5 pills a day for 21 days and then a week off. I hope and pray you are cancer free but please do not be nieve to the disease. I didn't think I needed to have mammograms after my double mastectomy, thankfully I had a caring doctor you called me after the four years, and that is when it was found in the chest wall. Be brave there is plenty of us to help you.

  • Christina,
I went through the same thing 8 years ago and, yes, it was a hard decision to undergo a double masectomy with reconstruction. The surgeries take a while, but it's so worth it! You made the right decision and it helps to talk with someone who has gone through this -- I know it helped me.
