See More... Avril Lavigne’s concert in Malaysia is still on, Reuters reports.

Government officials reversed a decision barring Avril from performing on Aug. 29, leading up to the country’s Aug. 31 independence-day festivities. The Canadian pop-star’s show in Kuala Lumpur was originally canned after protests from an Islamist party.

Just last October, pop superstar Beyonce Knowles canceled her own show in Malaysia to protest against the country’s strict dress code.

  • I think that it's unfair to try to put our standards onto another country. they have the right to make the rules they want to.

  • What did they expect? Avril to perform in a Burqa?

  • outfit like in the 'hot' music videos is against islam. she should wear polite clothing (by malaysian standard) while on stage. it's not like she suddenly can't sing if she doesnt wear sexy outfit

    • I'm guessing you're a Muslim extremist then? Get out, this isn't your place.

  • She can wear whatever she wants. No one in the modern world cares what Islamic fundamentalists think, nor do we have to listen to them. Props to Beyonce. Burkas are disgusting tools used to control women. Any man who demands that women wear burkas is weak and sexist. I don't think of women as being any better or worse than myself. Oh and, "it's not like she suddenly can't sing if she doesnt wear sexy outfit" No one said she couldn't, you prude. But it's rude for some religious fanatics to demand that she dress a certain way. They have no power over her.

  • Look, there is no extremism in Islam.

LISTEN before you stop reading this. Men in Islam are not told to force women to wear the hijab. That's just some things some muslims do. Wearing it is something between them and God.

Avril, IS performing in an Islamic country. So it is in the best interest that she at least wear polite clothing. AND It is completely understandable if Avril is cancelled again. It is our right as an islamic country, and you and your country have the same rights to ban her for whatever reason too.

  • Funny! I've seen a woman in shorts in the Kuala Lumpur city center.

  • hahahaahaa, hillarious. Some chicks bitching about not being able to show their butts and tits. To cancel a show for not being able to wear revealing clothing is pathetic. It shows the artist doesn't really focus on her songs as much as the "show". The artist herself is not flexible if she can't go on a compromise with the traditions of the place she performs in.

  • As a non-muslim American who has been to Malaysia many times, I feel one needs to at least make an attempt to conform to one's host nation. You are a guest, and you (should) know what the local customs, dress codes, and societal standards and expectations are, especially if you're going there for business. Avril Lavigne is no different. While on tour, she will be visiting many countries where each will have a different standard for dress an behavior. It is her responsibility to know this and to oblige each country and its venues with what would be proper. I know many voicing the opposite feel that Malaysia is far too conservative but you don't inspire change by bludgeoning their views on decency. Change comes slow. And remember, Malaysia is technically a muslim nation yet is relatively tolerant of of other cultures, races, and religions. In fact, they are currently in the process of a political shift that may help inspire a more liberal, inclusive movement, with the recent rise in power of Anwar Ibrahim. Malaysia is no where near perfect, but when we Americans look at ourselves in the mirror, particularly with Washington DC in the background, how perfect are we?
