beijing olympics '08 closing ceremony - wow!

hey hey! i'm way bummed the 2008 summer olympics have come to a close after two weeks of heated medal action (the US took home the most medals (110) although china won the most gold (51)) one of my three televisions was running olympic coverage on NBC non-stop - i'm going to miss the games (i'm not much of a sports person but i really enjoy the olympics) the closing ceremony was yet another amazing visual spectacle (just like the opening ceremony) and also involved a bit of london (including an appearance by hottie david beckham) since the next summer olympics will take place there in 2012 (nestled in between is the 2010 winter games taking place up in vancouver) although china put on a great show - we all know it's a country with a government still residing on the shady side of the street (plus i found out by way of fellow blogger nick from celebslam that he wasn't able to access popbytes in china while vacationing in beijing - that's so not cool!) a person on the news this evening pointed out that not one single athlete spoke out the entire time on any of the human rights issues that china still refuses to really deal with (or even let people protest over) that said i'm really looking forward to seeing the next set of summer games take place in a country without major controversy (and where people can protest if they feel the need to speak out) popbytes over & out for now...xxoo
