"The Insider" confirms that David Beckham and wife Victoria Beckham were not in a terrifying car crash in France on Friday, as was widely reported on various news outlets over the weekend.

"This is a complete fabrication, absolutely not true," a spokesperson for the star couple tells "The Insider."

According to the bogus report, the couple was staying at their home in the French Riviera last week and got into a nasty accident on the way to the airport in Nice, as the soccer star was set to fly to Beijing for the closing Olympic ceremonies.

The fabricated story claimed that the pair was involved in a horrific crash, which left their black BMW with a smashed windshield and extensive damage along the passenger side, leaving them "severely shaken." Furthermore, David was supposedly forced to leave his wife behind at the accident scene so he could catch his flight.

Truth be told, David Beckham made it to the closing ceremonies unscathed, where he kicked a soccer ball into the crowd as part of a symbolic passing of the torch from Beijing to London for the next summer Olympics in 2012.
