"American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest announced on his radio show Monday that the reality competition will be adding a fourth judge this season  -- Grammy-nominated songwriter Kara DioGuardi.

DioGuardi has written songs for Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, Pussycat Dolls, The Jonas Brothers, Jessica Simpson, Santana, Pink and much more.

Up until the last season, the show had three judges: Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell. "Idol" comes back for its eighth season on January 2009.

  • Kara is the worst choice for a judge. She thinks she is Paula. I think Paula is the only girl judge that should be on there. Kara is a waste of time and she should leave. It takes to long to hear the judges criticism now, ithink Kara should...

  • Why did AI mess with success? I find Kara totally annoying. Makes me wonder if there is truth to the "casting couch" theory. I think the reason AI has been such a success is because Randy, Paula and Simon compliment each other and Kara has thrown a...

  • It works exactly how the X-Factor works over in the UK. Three out of four have to say yes to pass.

  • How is this going to work? Three judges keeps ties from happening in the auditions and after that..They can't let America vote during those times so this isn't going to work at all.

  • Who? And why did they think this was a good idea?
The American Idol judging panel needs removals, not additions.

  • I would like to see them give the decision making on who advances to the finals and who wins the idol contest back to the judges. They need to replace Paula and Randy, they are saps.
