VENICE, Italy (AP) _ A dark comedy by the Coen brothers is opening the Venice film festival.

"Burn After Reading" stars George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Frances McDormand.

The movie is a tale about idiots — and what happens when their worlds collide.

Pitt and McDormand play a pair of hapless gym employees who get in over their heads when the memoirs of a failed CIA analyst, played by John Malkovich, fall into their hands.

Clooney plays a hypochondriac philanderer having an affair with the CIA analyst's wife, played by Tilda Swinton.

It's Clooney's third film with the Coen brothers. Pitt told a news conference Wednesday that he had waited a long time to work with the Coens.
