Hours after vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin confirmed to "The Insider" that her 17-year-old daughter Bristol was five months pregnant, the New York Post reveals that the reported father-to-be is a high-school hockey player.

The Post says that Levi Johnston, reportedly the young man in question, is a popular student athlete and a self-described "redneck."

The paper claims Johnston supposedly wrote on his MySpace page (it has since been taken down) that he is "in a relationship" adding, "I don't want kids."

The Post adds that the strapping senior, a member of Wasilla High School's hockey team, once played alongside Palin's older brother, Track, in a youth league. New York's Daily News claims that Bristol could often be seen in the stands during games, cheering her man on.

In event devoid of fanfare, the NYDN says that state troopers allegedly busted Johnston last year for fishing king salmon from Alaska's Moose Lake out of season. He allegedly paid $370 in bail, says the paper.

  • Regardless of political or religious persuasion, it is wrong to glamorize the pregnancy of a 17 year old and an obviously normal 18 year old. I hope that the Palins do not entrap their daughter in a marriage just because she is pregnant and her...

  • You sunk as low as DailyKos.com, who at least, retracted their bogus story. The baby is 4 months old, and Bristol is 5 months pregnant, so it's impossible for her to be the mother. This is gutter journalism at its worst.

  • If Mr. Johnston doesn't want to marry Bristol, then he should not have bleeped her. And they should have used protection. It's a little late for him to say he doesn't want children --- obviouly he doesn't share his fiancee's pro-life stance; he...

  • I find it funny that it is always those staunch republican's that don't want sex education in school because their kids "would never have sex before marriage" this is a perfect example of why not to JUDGE!!!!

  • This concern with the Palin issue isn't the pregnancy. It's the fact that Governor Palin is staunch in her belief that sex-education should not be taught in schools and abstinence should be followed directly contradicts the realities in American...
