Republican leaders strongly rallied behind Sen. John McCain Tuesday night at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minn.  Keynote speakers included President George W. Bush via satellite, First Lady Laura Bush, and former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson.

Thompson is a former presidential candidate and known by many for his role on "Law & Order."

First lady Laura Bush spoke to GOP delegates, highlighting the achievements of President Bush, calling him "the man I love." She went on to commend the president for his involvement in the "No Child Left Behind" education plan, HIV-Aids services in Africa and "freedom" for Iraq and Afghanistan.

President Bush vehemently backed McCain's strength to take on the Democrats.

"If the Hanoi Hilton could not break John McCain's resolve to do what is best for his country, you can be sure the angry left never will," Bush said via satellite.

"As president he will stand up to the high tax crowd in Congress … and lift the ban for drilling on America's offshore oil," Bush added.

McCain's wife Cindy, and former President George H.W. Bush watched the night's speeches from the VIP booth.
