Teen Vogue's October 2008 Issue Featuring the Boys of 90210
Ryan Eggold plays Ryan Matthews, “a fresh-out-of-college English teacher with a troubled past.” Though the 23-year-old jokes that he once dreamed of being Saved by the Bell’s Zach Morris, Ryan enjoys the prospect of being “a bit of a lone wolf” on camera. “My character is not totally an adult yet, but he’s a nice kid. He’s kind of in this middle ground.” In real life, the recent USC grad is working on a film called Lunchers, which Ryan not only wrote, but also hopes to produce, direct, and star in.
Tristan Wilds plays Dixon, a former foster child and newly adopted son of a wealthy Beverly Hills family. Well known for his performance as Michael on HBO’s tumultuous series The Wire, Tristan’s well equipped to take on one of 90210’s most complex characters. Tristan explains that Dixon “is just trying to feel like he’s a real part of the family.” A budding film actor, Tristan will also star alongside Dakota Fanning and Queen Latifah in the highly anticipated film, The Secret Life of Bees, set to be released in October.
For Dustin Milligan, playing 90210’s cutest lacrosse star, Ethan Ward, definitely presented a challenge. “When I was in high-school I was kind of the anti-jock,” says the 23-year-old. “I was really a skater kid. We got into more trouble than we did get involved in organized sports.” Though Ethan Ward may appear have it together on the playing field, Dustin notes that his character battles “a lot of moral issues” proving Ethan is clearly “not your average jock.”
Michael Steger, who plays over-achieving rich-kid, Navid Shirazi, first got hooked on acting by watching martial arts films. Since this real-life black belt’s character is better known for his writing ability than his combat skills, Michael studied journalism to prepare for the role. “Navid has everything at his fingertips,” Michael explains. “He has been surrounded by the entertainment business all his life, so that’s what makes him want to be an aspiring producer and journalist.” Of course, when the CW’s 90210 equals the success of its predecessor Michael may just become the story himself. “But I’m not scared of the paparazzi,” he insists. “I think I’ll be fine.”
With looks that rival Luke Perry and Jason Priestly, newcomers Ryan Eggold, Dustin Milligan, Michael Steger, and Tristan Wilds will soon be breaking hearts both on and off the small screen. Be sure to catch them all on 90210 airing September 2nd on the CW.
