Moving from the glam Big Apple to the casual cool City of Angels involves more than just a 3,000 mile plane ride. It involves redefining my sense of style. Since moving to the West Coast, I have totally bought into the casual L.A. fashion scene! In New York, my style was more refined, more couture.
Since touching down in Los Angeles, I haven't once taken any of my Chanel jackets or structured designer pieces out of my closet. I am sure I will find somewhere to wear them, but they just feel too buttoned up here! In fact, I am taking a major style cue from Jennifer Aniston, loving her jeans, flip flops and white button-down shirt casual ease.
I'm also tossing some fashion rules out the window. I love the idea of wearing white after Labor Day, especially in sunny L.A., where it feels like an endless summer. Besides, didn't that rule about white after Labor Day get outlawed by the fashion police some time ago? Whether you're in New York or L.A., it just seems so antiquated!
Now, I have to decide what fall fashion really means when the leaves don't change. I think I will create my fall look by gravitating toward more textured fabrics, richer colors, and maybe even a scarf. Leaving my winter wardrobe in my closet will be so strange at first, because my coats were such a big part of my New York wardrobe. I have a closet full of peacoats, trenches and long formal wool coats for just about any dip in the temperature. Maybe they will make guest appearances around the holidays!
Being a lover of all things fashion, believe it or not, I couldn't leave my winter coats behind, or anything else for that matter. I packed it all. I figure I will use my ski gear for some great Western skiing, and the coats and hats will come in handy in case "The Insider" sends me to New York or Chicago this winter. Plus, I just couldn't part with them!
