John McCain Formally Wins GOP Presidential Nomination

Sen. John McCain has officially won his party’s nomination for president Wednesday after a roll call vote put him over to formally clinch the spot on the GOP ticket.

McCain, 72, won the nomination on the same night his Vice Presidential running mate Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin made a fiery acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minn.

McCain's win comes eight years after his unsuccessful attempt at winning the nod. The late night vote took place after Palin made her speech. McCain is scheduled to make his acceptance speech Thursday night at the RNC.
