The Serious Social Commentary of Oscar the Grouch (by Chappelle)

This is a not new clip of Dave Chappelle (from one of his stand up specials) on Oscar the Grouch and Sesame Street. It's really hilarious and also makes an important social statement, (while being no less funny in doing so) which is why Chappelle is one of the greats. Not safe for work as there is some foul language in the clip.

Start at about 1:00 to get right into it.

Oscar responds. Come on, you know you see the Grouch in a whole new light now!

This belongs on Broadway. Those were the days, watching Sesame Street, chillin' out after kindergarten, sucking on chalk, no educational value necessary, just a good old musical number. It made all us 70's kids the people we are today. I don't remember Oscar having a Jersey accent, though! Is there anything finer than a You Tube moment which actually takes you back to the memory of the original viewing? For me it was "rusty trombone".

I'd be interested to know if I am alone (or need to take my student hat off at home) in thinking that there is a serious message contained in this comedy about Oscar, or is it just wishful thinking since I love The Muppets as much as great literature? What do you think?

New Feature: My Favorite Blogs

First up: Rich at Four Four offers a moment in the sun for LaToya " the forgotten" Jackson.

Fourfour doesn't need my endorsement, it's already a successful blog. But one I think everyone shoud read. What is so great about Rich's blog is that he always presents something funny, interesting, and readable, (even if you don't think you care or know about the particular TV show or movie). That's good writing. Rich's writing skill and humour has inspired me since I began blogging. Screen cap mastery, photoshop skill and impossible to beat funny and intelligent writing make Fourfour a must read for me. Rich's recaps of America's Next Top Model, ProjRun, and others are often preffered by his readers to actually watching the shows. Fourfour also reserves a space for a subject very close to my heart: Popculture freaks. Living Dolls, about child beauty pageants, is not to be missed, even if you stay up, riveted, watching all 2 hours of it as I did, stunned. (An old TV special but not aired in a while, and hard to find). Film and Music reviews that make me think and give a damn, and always, always, funny. Fourfour is the source of all my ANTM animated pics from the past so you may already love it and not even know it. Oh, and  there are awesome cats too. Latoya's time to shine?
