A new light shines on ‘The Dark Knight!’

Warner Bros. studios reportedly plans to re-release the record-breaking Batman sequel in January, right in time for Oscars’ voting season!

“It's just a matter of bringing it back as a reminder for people," a studio insider told The Hollywood Reporter.

Warner Bros. domestic distribution president Dan Fellman acknowledged that Imax executives were in talks to restore the film to show on a much larger screen in January, says the publication.

The blockbuster success of ‘The Dark Knight’ has aroused Oscar buzz for possible nominations in directing, producing, and acting -- especially for the late Heath Ledger who played the Joker in the film.

The film, which is the second highest-grossing movie ever after ‘Titanic,’ has grossed $512 million domestically and $440 million internationally.

  • I just seen the commercial last night for the DVD, December 9th is the date, Its a Tuesday. I just have something to say, I do think Heath Ledger deserves the Oscar. NO not because he died, NO not because I feel sorry for him, YES because his performance was amazing! When he first came onto the screen, "I believe whatever doesn't kill simply you makes you..stranger." I had goosebumps, his intro was amazing! I think he deserves it. And honestly, for those who say he doesnt' deserve it? Or it's just a sell out super hero movie. You obviously don't know GOOD movies and probably didn't see it. So there you have it.

    • Although it is sad, does anyone know where Heath is buried? I would like to personally deliver this Oscar to him.

Oh and by the way....there was a Harry Potter "presale"? Wow, now that's about the saddest thing I've heard.

does anyone know when it is going to be released. I mean like the time, like the Harry Potter opening was at like midnight, so I was wondering if they were going to do that?

  • WHY ALL THE FUSS OVER A SICK MAN ADDICTED TO STICKING NEEDLES IN HIS ARMS TO GET HIGH.THAT IS THE HIGHEST FORM OF BEING A JUNKIE. I BEEN THROUGH IT FROM AGE 16-25 AND THEN QUIT BECAUSE I KNEW IT WAS GONNA STOP ME FROM GOING FURTHER IN MY LIFE./ THE MEDIA HARRASS'S THE CELEBRITY, THEN HE OR SHE GETS CAUGHT USING & AFTER ALL THE HOOPLA IS OVER. THE NEXT STAGE IS TO COME OUT AND ADMIT THAT THEY WAS LIEING ABOUT USEING FOR YEARS. THE EVERYONE WANTS TO FEEL SORRY FOR THEM. OUR CHILDREN HEAR THIS AND THINK OK, I CAN USE DRUGS AND BE A JUNKIE.THEN GET HELP LATTER ON & I WILL BE TREATED LIKE I FOUND THE CURE FOR SMALLPOX'S.IT'S TIME TO STOP TREATING THEM AS BIGGER THAN LIFE AND LET THEM NOW THEY WILL BE A JUNKIE TILL THEY DIE,CLEAN OR NOT,EVERYDAY IS A STRUGGLE.& NO ONE CARES WHEN YOU END UP LIKE JOSE CANSECO.EXCUSE MY SPELLING, I MISPLACED MY EYE GLASS'S AND CANT SEE THE SCREEN WELL. THINK ABOUT WHAT I HAVE SAID. OUR FATHERS & MOTHERS AND OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS SHOULD BE OUR ROLE MODELS AND THEY SHOULD KNOW WHAT WE ARE DOING EVERY SEC. OF THE DAY UNTIL THE KIDS GROW UP AND MOVE OUT BY THE OLD AGE OF 20.IF THEY GET OUTTA LINE, THEN GIVE EM A GOOD SLAP IN THE FACE FOR TALKING TRASH. THEY FAIL IN SCHOOL AND CUT CLASSES, THEN TAKE AWAY THE BIKES AND CARS & TV'S AND COMPUTERS. WHEN I WENT TO SCHOOL, WE DIDNT HAVE COMPUTERS AND COULDNT EVEN USE A CALCULATOR FOR MATH PROBLEMS. WE USED OUR MINDS TO FIGURE IT OUT. TV WENT FROM 30-60 SEC. COMMERCIALS TO HAVING 5-20 SEC. COMMERCIALS BECAUSE NO ONE HAS THE ATTENTION SPAN TO WATCH ANYTHING.I WILL STOP, I AM 45 AND BECAME MY PARENTS,& I THANK THE LORD EVERY DAY MY CHILDREN TURNED OUT WONDERFUL,NUFF SAID.

  • who talks about a dead guy? Movie was great, better than any this year. Name one other person who could have nailed the joker the way ledger did. Of course he should win an oscar, dead or not

  • I think that the re-release of the movie should have Katie Holmes replacing Maggie Gyllenhaal, if possible. (nothing personal Maggie) In my opinion that is the only flaw in the movie (a big one in my eyes). It looses that realism and its hard to believe. Im not her biggest fan nor do I think shes the greatest actress, but movie sequals need the original cast. Plus the death scene would of been more shocking. If they make a 3rd installment it could of gone down as the best trilogy of all time, next to star wars, but that replacment kills it, what if star wars replaced princess Lea in The Empire Strikes Back? or Rocky fought a different Apollo in Rocky II? It would have been weird huh? Thats why I think it should be done.

  • The movie sucked. Batman Begins was the best Batman movie, this follow up was boring and over-rated. Breathtaking performance by Ledger, what a joke. Only if you're a homosexual. Why don't you get under his table and finish him off superfan. Oh ya, I forgot the junkie overdosed. Now thats a happy ending.

  • Saw it on opening day. It was a good flick but nothing epic. Nothing even close to epic. Especially towards the end where it was VERY rushed. Especially in the case of two face. Heath Ledgers acting was good but nothing revolutionary. A few witty one liners here and there make it excellent? The movie was highly predictable and average. Worth watching yes, Worth watching a couple of times, Yes. Worth watching a few times in a theatre, Nope.

    • It wasn't just a few witty one liners- if it was- any good comedian/actor with good timing that looks good in the Joker makeup can be Joker in the next Batman film. But it is much more. It is his voice, the inflections in the way he says the words, in the way he physically carries his body, his evil, maniacal laugh perfected, his facial expressions, etc. He completely created and embodied this character and disappeared into the Joker. EVERY SINGLE SECOND he was on the screen. Heath's Joker was a force to be reckoned with, an agent of chaos. THAT is why he deserves the Oscar.

  • OSCARS BABY... OSCARS ALL THE WAY.
dead or not, his performance was breathtaking... If you understand the persona (the joker) he was trying to reflect onto the screen, you would stop judging....
Now go back to living your miserable lives and think about something worth wasting time on.

  • I agree with the above comment about I am Legend being re released for Oscars. I think thats a brilliant idea Will Smith was excellent hopefully though they don't in the same category or I'll be biting my nails!

  • I think he damn well merited an oscar for that role. Whether he is dead or if he was still alive. It was an amazing portrayal of a psychopath. Missmoo you must be out of your mind or perhaps didn't see the film to have such a biased opinion. I think you under estimate how many people do separate the death of an actor with how amazing the movie is. It is definitely oscar worthy and besides since when do movies that make heaps of money become based on their art for an oscar???? What planet are you living n?

  • I saw the movie and I thought it was phenomenal but at the same time I am not sure people are really seperating his death from his performance, which in my opinion is a shame because he would have wanted an Oscar nomination I belive based on merit not on the fact that he died.

  • Missmoo, You are probably also one of the people who said that Nirvana was a sellout group and had no talent back in the 90s even though to this day I still hear Nirvana songs on the radio. I bet when Cobain died you told all the fans that they were morons to like the music of a dead drug addict. Ignorance breeds ignorance...

  • Who ever is saying that Heath isn't worthy of an Oscar is either high or didn't even bother to see the movie,Heath perfected the role of Joker he adapted all characteristics of that character, hell, he even lived alone in a hotel room for a month and that is enough to make him win an Oscar.
