See More... "Saturday Night Live" premiered its new season Saturday with the show’s highest ratings for a season-opener in seven years. Was it Tina Fey’s knee-slapping, dead-on cameo as VP nominee Sarah Palin, or guest-host Michael Phelps’ big acting debut -- or was it Barack Obama’s highly-anticipated appearance that was later canceled that brought in the numbers?

The premiere was also the most-watched episode since December 17, 2002, when former presidential vice president Al Gore guest-hosted the show and the musical guest was Phish, Reuters reports.

Saturday’s SNL premiere was up 64 percent since last year, with Baltimore leading the market, Reuters says. Baltimore is the hometown of Olympics star Michael Phelps.

  • Viewership may up but after watching the show for the first time in years, I was very dissappointed. Other than the beginning "Palin" skit, the rest of the show was very easily forgettable.
