The actress – who split with husband Brad Pitt 3 years ago – says she's learnt to be cautious because so many of her relationships haven't worked out.
'Being in love is a great thing and you always want to be able to give yourself over to that feeling,' she says.
'But you also need to have a practical side to keep watch over yourself, and not get carried away to the point where you're not seeing things clearly.'
But Jennifer, 39, who recently split from musician John Mayer, 30, says she can't understand why so much attention is given to her love life.
'It can be frustrating because you hear so many ridiculous stories and things which are plain lies,' she tells Hello!. 'You want to go on the record but you can't because it just inflames things.
'I'm so used to it now that I don't pay attention. But I'm grateful that the public is still interested in my life.'
