Lara Spencer blogs about Emmy style for 30 Days of Fashion!

I really enjoy the whole process of getting ready for awards shows. It is like being a little girl and playing dress up. I am so lucky to work with an amazing stylist too. She always comes up with five or six incredibly chic, elegant options, so it is an embarrassment of riches. For the Emmys we wanted to evoke the cool, classic look of the Golden Age of Hollywood -- nothing revealing, short, or too sexy. I think she hit it out of the park with the orange, flirty, ruffled gown by my friend Carmen Marc Valvo. I felt great and many of the stars said it was one of the best dresses of the night! To hear that from Vanessa Williams and Teri Hatcher is pretty special!

I thought both of them looked stunning. Vanessa had a one-shoulder floral gown by Kevan Hall. It was form-fitting, and she has the most fabulous figure.

Teri went with a yellow strapless gown by Monique Lhuillier. She looked comfortable, bright, breezy ... but super polished. She was glowing and was having a lot of fun on the red carpet. Mariska Hargitay wore the same color but a more Grecian, one-shouldered dress. Seeing the bright color on the red carpet was a refreshing change from boring black. Tina Fey -- the woman of the night -- wore a strapless dress by a fabulous NY designer whose clothes I wear all the time. His name is David Meister, and it was the prettiest shade of purple.

I loved that the women were not dripping in diamonds. It always feels too old fashion for me. The jewelry was much more modern, chunky and lots of gold. It was one of the best red carpet events I have ever been to. The stars were dressed to the nines and enjoying every minute of it!
