Brigitte Nielsen, who very publicly kicked her addictions on VH1's "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew," was on hand to speak about her experiences.
"It's an emotional day, it's an amazing day," Brigitte tells "The Insider." "It's nice to be back in Washington for this purpose. I'm celebrating one year and two months of sobriety, no cigarettes, and it's going to be the first time talking in public and in this place."
A recovering alcoholic, Brigitte says, "I will be in treatment for the rest of my life but I'm loving it. I've got a second chance at life -- I've got my kids back -- in faith and in love; I'm very, very happy in my relationship. I can see people straight. I feel reborn!"
"Desperate Housewives" actress Andrea Bowen was nominated for a PRISM award for her portrayal of a girl who contracts HIV in 'Girl, Positive' with Jennie Garth.
"The Prism Awards honors excellence in television and movies for bringing awareness to issues such as alcoholism and drug addiction," she explains. "If I can be that person to kind of perk up someone's ears a little bit more than just hearing [about HIV] on the news, then it's my pleasure and my honor and I think it's also my duty, so it's a big deal for me to be here."
Other stars nominated for a PRISM award include Casey Affleck for 'Gone Baby Gone,' Ryan Gosling for 'Lars and the Real Girl,' James Denton and Teri Hatcher for "Desperate Housewives," Christina Applegate for "Samantha Who?" and, of course, Dr. Drew Pinsky.
The 12th Annual PRISM Awards television special will be nationally simulcast on seven cable networks (FX Network, Lifetime Real Women, Fox Reality Channel, National Geographic Channel, ReelzChannel, Retirement Living TV, and Starfish Television Network) on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. with an encore at 1:00 a.m.
