It's Guitarist Sonny Landreth's Time
Music News - Sonny Landreth is not only one of America's best guitarists, he is most respected and well-known for his slide guitar playing. His music sound captures Mississippi Delta blues, zydeco, and the Southern rock sound of guitar legend, Duane Allman. But he also creates a sound that are all his own thru his inventive technique. Thru the years, Louisiana based Landreth, 57, has developed the skill to fret notes and play chords and chord fragments behind the slide while he plays. Landreth plays with the slide on his little finger, so that his other fingers have more room to fret behind the slide. He's also known for his unique right-hand technique, which involves tapping, slapping, and picking strings, using all of the fingers on his right hand. Landreth has worked steadily for decades as a side played and amassed a following among his fans and



guitarist peers. Eric Clapton has said he is "probably the most underestimated musician on the planet and also probably one of the most advanced." Landreth has also recorded with John Hiatt, Jimmy Buffett, and accompanied Buffett on his 2006 and 2007 summer tours. Sonny's latest CD, From the Reach, Landfall Records, features some of the best known guitarists and performers with likes of Mark Knopfler, Vince Gill, Robben Ford, Dr. John, Eric Johnson, and others.  Each tune was written for the guest performer. Ane, the approach worked so well that I was so amazed and felt that the guest had written the tune instead of Landreth.
