Dramatic Photo: Jessica Alba’s Muzzled Plea

Copyright 2008 / ET
A muzzled, teary-eyed, and jaw-bound Jessica Alba appears in a provocative and compelling new ad campaign encouraging young adults to get active in the upcoming presidential election.

The striking ad is for "Declare Yourself," a non-partisan, non-profit national voting initiative aimed to get young voters to register and vote in the 2008 presidential race. The ad bears the slogan: “Only You Can Silence Yourself.”

"These images, while incredibly unsettling, are extremely compelling to today’s young adults," said Marc Morgenstern, Declare Yourself Executive Director. "With less than 40 days left until the national election, we deliberately chose vivid and startling imagery to break through and underscore the grave consequences of not voting and in effect muzzling oneself."

The dramatic, eye-popping photo of a struggling Alba was taken by renowned photographer Mark Liddell.

  • Personally I wish the uninformed wouldn't vote. Too many vote based on appearance or MTV commercials or so on. Can't name a single reason why they like their candidate.

  • The sad part is all these campaigns focus solely on voting. But pushing a button or pulling a lever every 2 or 4 years does little good. To make the changes necessary, it will require much more organization and effort than that. Voting for the turds...

    • Since when is not voting an intelligent decision? When you don't vote, you forfeit your right to complain about anything. That's muzzling yourself. If you think you can not vote and still have a voice, you are either stupid or delusional.

  • A muzzled and jaw-bound redundancy.
Why has there been no media backlash with womans rights groups? I would think they are foaming at the mouth to associate this with domestic violence.

    • Oh god no. It's good that she's active in something important, but her as president is ridiculous.
