Friends pay tribute to DJ AM in welcome back concert

Friends and fellow DJs and musicians paid tribute to DJ AM in a welcome back concert in LA last night. AM was critically injured in a fatal small plane wreck that killed four other people less than a month ago. He suffered second and third degree burns to his face and arm, and initial reports about his condition sounded dire. He was released from the hospital less than a week after the accident, though, and is said to be doing well. The other survivor of the crash, AM’s friend Travis Barker, is still in the hospital being treated for third degree burns to the lower part of his body. He has had seven surgeries but is doing well and says he hopes to be released within a week or two.

AM received a hero’s welcome in LA last night. The poster for the event at Avalon in West Hollywood featured his face in a profile illustration in blue and red, similar to the iconic fan-created image of Presidential candidate Barack Obama. The crowd was treated to performances by Cisco and Shwayze, and Mix Master Mike. Danny Masterson and Will.i.am were among the attendees. Proceeds went to a memorial fund for the victim’s families.

AM will DJ for Jay-Z at his Hollywood performance tomorrow. He told People “He’s the greatest rapper in the world. This is the biggest thing that’s happened in my career.”

35 year old DJ AM is rumored to have reconciled with his ex girlfriend, singer Mandy Moore, 24, after she visited him in the hospital. Star reports that they’re a couple again, although other tabloids had AM visited at the hospital by yet another woman whom he was dating more recently.
