On Wednesday night, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama aired a multi-network ad, asking the American people for their votes in the last days of the historic presidential campaign.

Though he said in the ad, which aired on CBS, NBC and FOX, as well as some cable networks, that he would not be a “perfect” president, he promised: “I will always tell you what I think and where I stand."

The ad contained specific cornerstones of Obama’s proposed presidential policy, as well as interviews with citizens affected by the economic crisis, like an automotive factory worker and retirees concerned about health care. The ad also touched on Obama’s relationship with his parents, and his wife and two young daughters.

At the end of the 30 minute broadcast, Obama appeared live, making an appeal to an excited Florida swing-state crowd: “In six days we can come together as one nation and one people and once more choose our better history. That’s what’s at stake, that’s what we’re fighting for.”

  • Obama's comments just shows his immaturity. His campaign is getting more like a grade school election than a United States of America election. Grow up! His body language says so much about him.

  • McCain is compalining about Obama's 30 minutes ad, but then he runs a negative ad right after it. This is the same guy that hated how Karl Rove did negative campaigning in 2000. I wish McCain never changed his views from 2000.

    • think what McCain is really after is his own supporters...no one generous enough to contribute? He would not be so negative if he had as much contributors as Obama has...i say Obama's just using all the resources available to him to reach out to all the undecided voters....hope this ad did help and swayed more voters in his favor....Too bad McCain is using this and making it an issue...sounds desperate to me...Maybe if he had as much contributors out there he'd do the same thing esp. now that he is the underdog....Where are his supporters? All of Obama's supporters are doing their job...they are making sure their candidate makes it to the White House....I'm just an outsider (Canadian) looking in..and that's how I see things unfolding....

  • I am glad you guys are all looking for a president that is going to promote people not to work as hard as they have to because the government will give you a handout ie. spread the wealth.. his ideologies are very rudimentary and will shut this country down.. his beliefs on unionization is going to make this country even more uncompetitive..... Of course he can deliver great speeches, he is a trial lawyer but can he lead a country.. that takes experience not somebody who is a good orator... I just hope this country makes the right choice for an experienced leader..not Obama

  • Obama is a class act. Cool and in control. He's got a big heart. A man of integrity. His idea's are fresh and clean. Just what this Country needs and wants. Better than the alternative, old and crusty and worn out.

  • He is smart , he has good speach, but I think he is not ready to be to be a leader for the nation may be in 2012, he is immature and he has to grow up just a little more and then he may be a good president .
    anonymous anonymous 10/29/08 Reply

    • "Grow up"? You haven't said why you feel he is immature. Our country is stagnant because we fight change so hard. Change is scary, but necessary for growth. He recognizes this. I see nothing immature about that. If anything, to continue in things the way they are would indeed be immature. He's done more in his short time as a senator than many of the "senior" senators have done in their entire time in the senate. Right now, they are nervous, because perhaps they won't have all of the "perks" they used to at our expense. They count on us being naive enough not to see this.

    • Perhaps not. From what I'm hearing, it seems as if Obama's plan to eliminate taxes for business is focused on BIG business. Like Exxon, etc. Also, I think he's saying that he would give tax breaks to companies that kept their workers here in America instead of shipping jobs overseas. It is a hard race, because it can be scary to try a new candidate who is "untried" by the standards of many. But sometimes the chance for great (positive) change comes with risk. We already know how the past administrations have (and always will) done / do it. At this point, we have much more to gain than lose. That's why I think it's a perfect time to elect for change. Sometimes "crisis" spells "opportunity".

  • A totally inspiring ad. His positive charisma projects through the media. The only candidate who was a compelling as Obama was JFK. Confidence, without a "know it all attitude" is what this country needs. We need a president that world leaders can respect.
    anonymous anonymous 10/30/08 Reply

    • Yes, and it's funny (ironic) that no one seems to recall that JFK nearly lost to Nixon in his election. I think perhaps some of the reason at the time was his youth (he was even younger than Obama), and the fact that he was Roman Catholic. Doesn't seem like we've changed all that much as a nation in our thinking, because as we all know, years later Nixon WAS elected... and we all know what happened then!

He is the next president of the United States of America and all of you scared, religious finatics clinging ever so tightly to your guns and religion should be scared because your era is coming to an end and change is on it's way. You can't stop it. So just give it up, Obama is the next president of the United States of America and McCain looks like a bitter school girl after she just lost her boyfriend to a more "experienced" and better looking girl! Whah Whah, cry me a river, besides, McCain is TOO OLD for office..he wouldn't last more than a year before that air head is the leader of the free world and then god help us then! Go Barack!

    • This is a very passionate response, but also not a very intelligent one. To lump all people of faith into one category, or assume that none of them are for Obama is a bigoted assumption. It's judging all of a group by a few. This is something I don't believe that Obama endorses, even though he may have said something to that nature (that I believe was taken out of context). However, still -- it is not my job to judge you, because we all have room for growth -- including myself.

I can't wait until he is the President..it is about time! Get mad if you want to, and I expect you will because most of you that would vote for McCain can't stand for anyone to have an opinion that differs from yours..I mean, you ask and then when someone speaks about it you attack them. • Different times call for different action. If JFK had been president now, he may well have thought along the exact same lines as Obama. After all, this is over 40 years later. Also, I thought it was really insightful that it was Bobby Kennedy who made a comment about the possibility of a black man running for president within 40 years... almost prophetic. Those Kennedy's may not have been perfect, but they sure were something special. Unfortunately, many of us don't recognize "special" until t's too late. Then we all want to say "What a great man / woman that person was". If any of these people were still alive today (the Kennedy brothers, Marin Luther King, etc), I doubt if people would hold them in such high regard (unfortunately). We expect our leaders to be perfect. I dont want a perfect leader, nor do I expect one. I do want a leader that genuinely cares for more than just his "own agenda". Everything else can be ironed out.

  • Uf it didn't air in your area or you saw it air later than it was supposed to, you can get it on youtube! I would also contact your cable company, Time Warner also owns cnn and I know they have their own agenda and don't want you voting for Obama so they will do all they can to keep you and others from seeing him! Those ads were paid for and you had every right to see them! I am contacting the Obama campaign about late start times so I will add in about Time Warner cable possibly doing this as well! The Cable companies do have the ability to change the programming! They got money for those ads as well! This could very well be illegal! If the Obama campaign paid for all Americans to see this, then every cable company has to carry it!

  • In reference to the Obama half hour special, One week before Nov 4th 2008.
If you don't believe these things are happening within America and even worse, you must be living in a vacuum! Maybe it is time to come out of that vacuum and see how many Americans are being forced to survive! I say survive because I honestly don't believe it is living in the true sense of the word! I know many who have made it to the millionaire status, yet I have heard them talk as though they were poor! In fact much poorer than any other American! I have always thought that they should look at the true poor of America! Yet, these same people would tell me that these poor people were nothing but trash! When I would try to explain the circumstances of many of these people who were down on their luck, forced into a situation they didn't want to be in, the answer of these people was always 'If I can do it, anyone can!'. This is not always true! There are some who are evil in nature, but that is not chosen by wealth or status! It is more of the nature of the person themselves! I do believe that it is time for all Americans to come together! We will have to put our prejudices aside and finally work together! If most of us try, it will become the new fad of all Americans, we all know how fads catch on, they spread like wild fire!

    Vote for change!
    GOTV for Obama!

    • What you've stated here has to be one of the more intelligent things I've read here so far. I wholeheartedly agree. A person should be judged based on their individual character -- which has nothing to do with their class, social standing, financial standing, race, color, creed... that sounds familiar, doesn't it? Too bad many of us ignore the truth of it. Kudos to you!

  • His campaign has raised money from many sources, and not federal alotted funds. Thus this money came directly from people and other entities.

Quite a liberal spenditure if you ask me. I just think this money could have been used in a better way rather than in a redundant and moot ad. Just my two cents tho - or rather, "ours" when he redistributes it.

  • Does everyone remember when McCain was running around claiming that the media was his base?
Do you know why he said that? Let's yet lobbyists! I know for a fact that Time Warner pays tons of money to lobby congress! If Time Warner controls cnn, what would stop them from making McCain look better than Obama through their control of cnn! Now think of the other news stations while keeping that in mind! But the FCC does have rules and only the complaints of the public can keep the msm inline and honest! The msm has to report the news fair and honestly! File a complaint with the FCC and while you are at it, file a complaint with the mother company of that news channel! I always complain to both cnn and msnbc!

  • Im from south africa and sitting here looking at what is going on over there I must say I am hopeful that America can become a better country and hope that Americans will vote for a president that not only has domestic issues at heart but is respected and loved by the whole world. He will really change what we think of Americans because up until now, because of Bush, Americans are loathed the world over. I was so disappointed in Americans when you voted in Bush twice that I really thought that you are a nation that is oblivious of the rest of the world and clearly misguided. Obama running for president has already began to change that sentiment. Like oprah he has the amazing ability to transcend the color line and appeal to all races. He is not pro black, or pro white, or black activist, but pro Humanity! This is the kind of leader your country needs, one that will bridge the gap between the haves and the have-nots, the republicans and the democrats and most importantly the massive devide that has turned human beings against each other based on religious, or sexual orientation, racial and ethnic differences. He does this by just simply being human before anything else. He trully is a great man, and if he doesnt become your president I fear America that it will be the biggest indication of lack of judgement you have made to date.
    anonymous anonymous 10/30/08 Reply

    • Well, let me ease your mind. As an American I can tell you that I NEVER voted for Bush. I knew that would be a mistake from the beginning. Also, there is always the talk of "fraud" with that last Bush election. Bush was only re-elected (I believe) out of fear. When people allow fear to control them, they make horrendous errors in judgement. It would be nice to see Obama elected, if only I could visit other countries without being misunderstood. I sure hate being judged by my president, that's for sure. Remember, America is a very young country. Right now, we are just growing out of the "teen" stage (you know -- where the teen thinks he / she knows everything). However, we are a great country not because of our government leaders, but that eventually, we come around in areas where we need to change. It just takes time. No country is perfect, and I think Americans are judged by a higher standard because of our country's place in the world. When you consider the genocide, and atrocities going on in other parts of the world, our issues seem like picnics. On the other hand, if we are to be the true leaders of the free world, then we need to live up to our calling with understanding, insight, and the willingness to "talk", negotiate, and listen. Change takes time. Just as your country had it's time for struggle in order to change, so has ours. There is a time and a place for everything under the sun... things like this cannot be rushed.

  • It's hard to buy the argument that Obama is going to 'shut this country down' while advocating for a President representing the same type of political thought which just brought our country to it's knees over the past eight years. Republicans put us into debt time after time, and make it seem 'noble' because they say it's for our national defense. Bin Laden is still out there, thousands and thousands of people have been killed (under the direction of a 'pro-life' president) and our economy is in deep crisis. I don't see how you make the argument that government policies that benefit the majority of citizens instead of an elite few, stabilize communities and keep people from becoming destitute thanks to lack of work or medical bills are something worse than what we have now under the Republican ideology. I look forward to having a President that is intelligent, resourceful, cool-headed and has experienced the struggles of 'regular people' (as opposed to someone who grew up in an elite military family) running the show for once. Go Obama.

You reaching out to the American People, was just that. I didn't find it offensive nor in bad taste. It's your responsibility to reach the People, helping them/us to understand yours, as well as, your advisors' plans to help our country out of its dilemmas.

There are critics but if the Republicans had money they would have done something similiar. The republicans had 8 years and now look were we are. Let's make a change America!

    • Bailing out the banks is socialism. So it's stupid to call Obama a socialist (as suggested by the "Castro" comment), when our current administration is doing just that (being socialist). The rest of your comments are too unintelligent to even warrant a response.

  • Fools! This 30 minute Ad proves that Obama is buying the presidency. If he can't play fair in the election, why should he play fair to all citizens as president? I for one am sick of supporting welfare deadbeats with my hard earned money. GET A JOB and stop looking for handouts. We need a Prez who will stand up for people who work for a living, not people who mooch for a living!
    anonymous anonymous 10/30/08 Reply

    • First let me say that Obama is not supporting welfare deadbeats...I make 75k a year and I am 29years old with 3 children and a husband. So lets get some things straight. I make decent money but its not fair that the rich keep getting richer and poor keep getting poorer. Look at Bush's plan just like Mccains, it does exactly what its been doing dropping the American Economy to little of nothing. Whats so funny is that people are so ignorant that they can't see that Baracks plan will help over 90% of Americans. Why would Mccain give a tax break to the middle and lower class Americans when his wife is air to Budweiser and he was raised and brought into wealth. So before you talk about a president standing up for people who work look around you and realize that we do work, make good money, but McCains homeboy, Bush has made it hard for us everyday hardworkers to live and survive because he doesn't have the decency to admit when he is wrong....I dare you talk about anyone on welfare, because people need help sometime and I am sure you have borrowed from someone before, but with Mccains plan we will all be on welfare and what will you be saying then.

    • re: "fools" this comment is also much to unintelligent... no.. "unintelligent" is too mild of a word... it's down right idiotic -- to warrant a response. Sounds like you need to take some of that "hard earned money" and go back to school. Then again, school won't necessarily instill "common sense".
      anonymous anonymous 10/31/08

    • oops... I meant to type "too" unintelligent (not "to"). But at least I spelled "unintelligent" correctly. That, after all is the most important word I needed to get my point across.

  • Yes, he said what he would do, and man, is he quite the orater.
However, he fails to ever actually say HOW he will be able to fix what has been destroyed by this government that we have had. I found it a bit of an arrgoant move, to buy time on television, though maybe it was a good move for him. In this election, I dislike both presidential candidates, I feel like the only one who can be trusted at all is Sarah Palin, despite what the media slams at her. I feel as if no matter what happens we will be in a crisis, but I think that it's moves like these, plastering his face on television, which has already proved to be in his favor. The media has crucified the Republican ticket only because we have had a past failed president, and I believe that no matter who would have run on the Republican ticket, they would have been destroyed by the media regardless. The Obama campaign has been vigorously propelled by the media, and those who don't support him or even bother to question his motives become isolated and get ripped to shreds by those who support Obama. It is frightening that he doesn't allow for people to question him at all, and that every record on him is sealed, except those that shine him in an exceedingly positive light. I think that the media has brainwashed a lot of the youth of America into thinking that this very inexperienced senator is capable of running the United States of America, and who knows, maybe he is. But from what records that HAVE NOT been sealed of his, it seems that his lack of experience or passion for actual reform and change, but rather passion for speaking to those who don't bother to look into him, does not prove that he is fit to be our next president.
Again, I think that this was just another attempt to shove it into the youth of America his already blasting celebrity status, and I think this was no more information and nothing new. He explained his ideals for what he could do, but he has yet to demonstrate to the American people HOW he would do it, he hasn't mapped anything out for us. He hasn't shown the steps he will take to improve anything, really, and he hasn't shown anyone what his tax cuts will do to small businesses and those employed by them. [although McCain isn't much better, he can at least be trusted]
He smirks and shoves off anything said about him, and has yet to prove to us that he has nothing to hide, because everything he does have to hide, has been sealed off from the public eye.
His ad was just another spoof to put icing on the "hahahahaa I won na-na-na-na-naaaaa" cake.

    • I have followed Obama for the past 2 year by meer interest in his tactics. First and foremost I think the media is crazed because the republican party and the media has tried to find every little thing on Obama to make him look bad and they are unsuccessful. As Senator he has done about 95% of what he has set out to do. he is a peoples person. Of course America is going to look at Bush and compare to Mccain cause they have a lot of policies that are the same. Its not arrogant at all to do a 30minute commerical. If mccain had thought of it would their be complaints. And poor Sarah Palin, doesn't have a clue. The reason she is looking as polished as she has is simply because she has been programmed to do so. What can Mccain possibly do for my middle class family. He hasn't a clue what it is to struggle and I truely believe if he is elected he will continue to help the rich. He doesn't play fair at all always bashing and never having anything positive to say. That is annoying and overbearing. I want a president who I believe can lead this country out of the mess it is in. I want a president who understand everyday people from the ones that struggle to the ones that get paid millions. I want a president who respects his family and family values. I want a president who plays fair. I want a president who understand me and my situation. Doesn't have to do with old, young, male, female, white or black, but who is the best and that person that I see is Obama. So with that said,.......GO BARACK!!!!
      anonymous anonymous 10/31/08

    • Actually he did. Obviously you weren't listening, because your mind is already made up. So why waste space and time with this comment? Incidentally, his plan is supposed to affect BIG businesses, not small businesses. It's the big business that ships jobs overseas. His plan is to cut taxes on those who ship overseas and give tax breaks to those who keep jobs here. That would pretty much cover the small businesses, wouldn't it? Also, the "hows" are probably too much for some to even comprehend. Are you a financial analyst, or economist? Then there's probably not enough time to begin to explain it all. Also, I haven't heard McCain explaining anything in that much detail, either. So what is your point? No one in Washington ever has. Are we holding Obama to stricter standards than we would to any other candidate? If so, why? I think that much of the problem is honesty WITHIN ourselves. Bush hadn't proved to be fit to be our president for those second four years either, but he was voted back in. So, now you're saying McCain HAS proven himself? How? In what way that is ANY different from Bush? None, I would say.

    • Now, this is just downright mean, and pretty much completely idiotic. I guess you look "perfect". Poor people are overweight because they can't afford to eat healthy. The fattening products cost less than the healthy products. By insulting the woman without reason, you identify yourself as someone who is shallow, self - centered, self - righteous, and arrogant (as well as under the age of 30, I hope because it would be a sad shame if someone who is supposed to be older and have wisdom made a comment like this) but also, your "Hussein" comment (nope, I didn't miss that) identifies you as a first class bigot. Hopefully, most of America doesn't think like you and will rise to the high calling of being "real Americans", and not bigots who "pretend to be real Americans". The end.

He's basically helping or at least trying to help the class that is working hard but don't get the benefits that many of us have. Like a good salary, decent tax return etc. That's were the confusion starts and it's unfair. I have no problem were our government is set up where a mother of four who works at a grocery store, shoe store, fast food chain resturant getting a tax cut. You have to share the weatlh, it'snothing wrong with that. People aren't going to go broke over the new taxes but you will see the difference in our economy. Don't be afraid of change. Change is life.

The route he chooses depends upon the decision he makes but the decision making process is not within the competence of an individual. There are so many guiding principles and role of inheritance is so crucial that the person who swept away with a desire to search the gospel of life ,may consider himself that he has lost his relevance in the process. An urge may lead to big surge .The innovation and the ideals play a vital role for the advancement. Some people are very optimistic and sometime they appear to become over-enthusiastic. The individuals use worship the rising sun and as such since an interaction with another individual having an innocent behavior, may always be regarded as one of the associates. Life is threefold present ;the present having an experience, past with a memory and past with a memory and a future with an expectation .

  • The harmonious construction is required to be given effect for analysing the truth amongst the 3 dimensional reflections. Thus the individuals who is associated with an optimistic personality always try to germinate confidence and simultaneously an introspection with retrospective effect. Throwing a stone up on the Moon may not be considered as an intelligent step but without throwing the stone in the upward direction, the heights attended by the trees in the Garden may not be crossed. It is only matter of appreciation and understanding by the individuals as to whether he may understand that the fellow is throwing the stone to cross the barrier or to some impossible distances. However even after being conversant that the person may suffer the innoclasm towards his objectives in life, but the said Individual’s approach becomes a guiding factor to other associate. The father of the individual enthusiastic personality may seldom be not able to cope up the requirement of adjustment in life with his son but certainly there is an implied appreciation which is not demonstrated but can be felt with his behavior. Thus the child who understand that it is on account of close affinity that the matter of appreciation become an unnecessary formality and this creates a misunderstanding.

  • People worships to God as he is unknown as usually inaccessible. Likewise the enthusiasm of an individual is indirectly related with the destiny and incase if the Luck permits, there is every possibility of achieving the success. Who will not like to become conversant with an important personality and likewise people outside may start appreciation with a critical assessment regarding your performance. Thus neither the disappointment is required nor there is any need to provide undue prominence to such negative approach. Though thy path be dark but there is a guiding factor which is given to the people by the nature and not by the individuals.
