Joaquin Phoenix is leaving his acting career behind to pursue another avenue of entertainment – and he's putting it in writing.

Joaquin, 34, posed at the American Film Institute festival on Saturday with writing on his knuckles that read, "Bye! Good." The AFI festival in Los Angeles was premiering Steven Soderbergh's new film 'Che,' starring Benicio Del Toro.

The actor said at a recent event honoring Paul Newman that he is retiring from acting to focus on music!

Joaquin earned an Academy Award nomination for his role as Johnny Cash in 'Walk the Line.' He learned to play guitar and did his own singing for the film.

  • I like how he's taking his leave of the acting scene as serious as a 12 year old, what a loser

  • Good for him!! It's a bit tragic for those of us who find him a wonderful (and beautiful!) actor but it's so refreshing that he's actually doing what is fulfilling for himself rather than enslave himself to a career that has become stagnant for him....

  • Good actor, but good thing someone else coordinates special effects in his movies. Funny that he probably thought the "Good Bye!" thing so clever, and then messed it up by not thinking it through. No Einstein.

  • This is great news... That guy is creepy and awkward to watch. Now if only a few dozen others that are just as bad would join him... the world would surely be a better place.
