Report: 'Grey's Anatomy' Dismisses Top Doc

The ABC hit drama “Grey’s Anatomy” has parted ways with another one of its characters. Which doctor was just released from Seattle Grace?

Entertainment Weekly reports that actress Brooke Smith will no longer appear on the show as cardiac doctor Erica Hahn. Smith’s departure breaks up the show’s first gay romance between Dr. Hahn and Dr. Callie Torres (played by Sara Ramirez).

According to the EW story, 'Grey'’s creator Shonda Rimes broke the news to Smith but the decision came down from the higher-ups at the ABC network. According to the magazine, “suits ‘had issues’ with both the explicit direction [Callie and Erica's romance] was taking ... and, more importantly, with the Hahn character in general.”

EW reports that Dr. Hahn will appear on the show for the last time this Thursday. Smith tells the mag that her character was not written out of the show and Dr. Hahn is simply seen heading to her car in the final episode.

    • While you may stop tuning in because she is leaving, I will start to watch again. Call me names if you want but I am entitled to my opinion and I don't want myself or my family to watch gay relations on TV. Many shows are forcing the gay issue...
