Why The Women of Entourage Are Truly in Charge!

A friend of mine on one of the other Entourage blogs asked me what I thought of the  Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven) storyline this week.  It prompted me to reply with this blurb:
I think the Ari storyline represents his overall disatisfaction with his career at this point in his life. Ari seems to want more- he's just not sure what he wants or how to get it. He considered the studio head job, but did some real soul searching enough to know that wasn't for him. But, I think he really wants out from under Barbara's thumb. Although they are partners in the agency, somehow he keeps defering to her (for all those women who complain that Entourage is too chauvonistic, I counter with the fact that the strongest and smartest characters on this show are women - Barbara( Beveryly D'Angelo) , Dana Gordon( Constance Zimmer) , Amanda Daniels( Carla Gugino) , Mrs Ari (Perry Reeves) ). He keeps trying to find a way to make it fresh and break out somehow from the mold he is in. We have to trust Doug Ellin to see this through. As we know, Gary Cole will be back next season, so this is just the tip of the storyline.

So, this got me thinking.   Who really runs the show on Entourage?

There is so much talk about the playboy lifestyle of Vincent Chase (Adrian Grenier), Eric Murphy (Kevin Connolly), Drama (Kevin Dillon), and Turtle (Jerry Ferrara).

But, they all have defered to women on the show for their decision making at one time or another (ok, maybe not Turtle- yet).

These boys talk about their mothers with reverence.  Vincent let a woman, Mandy Moore, almost bring down his career.  Eric struggled with a trip to Columbia (though not for long) because of his relationship with Sloan (Emmanuelle Chriqui), the same woman he turned to over and over again for counsel.  Not to mention the marriage of Ari Gold and Mrs. Ari, a woman who truly rules the roost.  As strong and powerful a man that he is, he does nothing without running it by her (check the dvds, guys).  You might even say Lloyd, as a gay man, can fit into this scenario.  After all, who tells Ari what he should and shouldn't do at work.  His "work spouse" Lloyd!

All the strongest players in Hollywood on this show are the women.  Barbara and Amanda are super agents.  Dana is now the head of Warners.  These women are go getters, with a powerful way of going after what they want and need.

In the past episodes, our boys have been lead around by women who want something from them.  I could list them all here, but Entourage already put out a coffee book for that.

So, I say hats off to Doug Ellin, for fooling them all.  You have all the guys out there thinking they are watching a show about hot chicks and a rockin' Hollywood lifestyle.   But, we truly smart women see thru it all.  Thanks for lookin' out and representin'!
