'American Idol' Marks Big Return

Last season it was the battle of the Davids, this time around it could be a battle of the judges!

With new judge Kara DioGuardi, the girl power is amped up and ready to give the guys a run for their money.

USA Today reports the new season of "American Idol" will premiere Jan. 13 with a two-night, four-hour premiere on FOX.

Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson will be back to rate the good, the bad and the ugly: auditions in San Francisco; Louisville, Ky.; Phoenix; Salt Lake City; Kansas City; Jacksonville; East Rutherford, N.J.; and San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Show dates for particular audition cities have not been announced.
