Madonna Cannot Adopt A Second Child From Malawi

Thanks to her divorce from Guy Ritchie, Madonna is now ineligible to adopt a second child from the African country of Malawi. Malawian official Penston Kilembe says the split means the adoption cannot be approved.

‘One fundamental condition in scrutinizing adoptions is the connectedness of a family,’ he says. ‘We can’t approve a child to go into a broken family because the divorce could be the result of the behavior of the party trying to adopt. Madonna should forget this one.’

Madonna and Guy adopted their 3-year-old son David from Malawi last year - and thus, his future is now in the hands of his adopted country.

‘His future will be decided by the British courts, who determine issues of custody,’ he tells Grazia. ‘He is no longer our responsibility.’

Not too long ago, Madonna denied that she was looking to adopt 3-year-old Mercy Jones - even though the little girl’s family confirmed that the orphanage she was living in had been asking them to approve an out-of-country adoption and they were refusing.

Madonna has two other children, 12-year-old Lourdes and 8-year-old Rocco. Madonna and Guy announced their split two weeks ago.
