Neil Patrick Harris Says He Came Out to Avoid Witch Hunt
Neil Patrick Harris told talk-show host, Ellen DeGeneres, on her show that his decision to publicly come out via People magazine back in November was based on his suspicions that he was going to find himself on the receiving end of some "media scrutiny." According to People:

Harris, who shot to fame as a teen doctor on Doogie Howser, M.D., now plays philandering Barney on CBS's How I Met Your Mother. "He's a crazy womanizer on the show so I just didn't find [my sexual orientation] important," he tells DeGeneres. "But other people did and I sort sensed this witch-hunt brewing."
Aww, I just heart him so much. Back in the day, I was so in love Doogie, I taught myself how to play the theme song to the show on the piano. And after finding out he's gay, my attraction makes so much sense. I like to imagine we would have gone to prom together, and we would have been such a lovely couple--a young, adorable gay and his delusional, love-struck beard.
