"I didn't realize this had happened because, of course, it's not the story that we're told,” Craig says of his heroic character's attempt to build a village for refugees -- a safe haven from Hitler's forces -- in the forests of Belarus during World War II.
"There were certainly other resistance movements. The fact is that most of them were wiped out," Craig says. "So it's interesting in hindsight to tell this story. It was the risk for survival.”
