51st Annual GRAMMY Awards Nominations Provide Cheer and Woe at The Insider

The GRAMMY Academy has made extraordinary progress in recent years to recognize musical talent as it blossoms; shedding its reputation as an out of touch tributary award show for body of work. Lil Wayne with 8 topped the nominations; Coldplay garnered seven; Jay-Z, Ne-Yo and Kanye West each earned six nods; Alison Krauss, John Mayer, Robert Plant, Radiohead and Jazmine Sullivan received five each; and Adele, Danger Mouse, Eagles, Lupe Fiasco, George Strait, and T.I. each received four nominations. Also recognized were notables Estelle, M.I.A.,Robyn, Duffy and Gnarls Barkley.

My favorite sign of progress is Rufus Does Judy at Carnegie Hall by Rufus Wainwright is in the Best Traditional Pop Vocal Category. Taylor Swift was totally shut out and asked to leave the premises because her howling was giving the sound techs too much feedback.
