Nicole Kidman last teamed up with director Baz Lurhman when she was singing and dancing in Moulin Rouge. Now she’s riding horses across the Australian Outback in Luhrman’s sweeping epic Australia. Nicole plays a prim and proper Englishwoman trying to save her cattle farm from foreclosure with the help of a handsome cowboy played by People’s “Sexiest Man Alive” Hugh Jackman. Nicole recently sat down with Parade and discussed her new movie and how she became pregnant with Sunday Rose in the middle of filming.
On if the diary she kept during filming will be published: “I was going to release it in conjunction with the film. Then I went, ‘Oh, this is too personal, I can’t let people read this.’ Some of it has ended up in the press so people have read excerpts, but I’m trying to keep the rest private. This film was a very personal journey for me. I became pregnant, so I got my daughter out of it. It was a combination of many, many things for me. I’ve always wanted to make a grand love story because that’s where I’m at in my life right now.”
On when she discovered she was pregnant: “After I’d been riding horses at a full gallop all over the Outback. We went into a studio in Sydney to do some dubbing and that’s when I found out. It was a total surprise but good timing.”
