In 'The Day The Earth Stood Still,' an alien named Klaatu (Reeves) travels across the universe to warn of an impending crisis on the Earth. Klaatu encounters renowned scientist Dr. Helen Benson (Connelly) and her stepson Jacob (Smith) on his quest to save the globe, but not before convincing people on Earth of his good intentions.
